This session will focus on Palestinian nationalism in its encounter with Zionism. Among other topics, it will take up the question of whether Zionism should be seen as a settler colonial project and what that might mean for an understanding of the history of the past century. It will also present a long-term historical perspective on the Gaza Strip that provides necessary context to the events of the recent past.
Jehad Abusalim is a Palestinian scholar and writer from Deir el-Balah in the Gaza Strip. He is Executive Director of the Institute for Palestine Studies–USA and co-editor of Light in Gaza: Writings Born of Fire.
