Please join us for a discussion with Dr. Tomer Persico about his latest book, In God's Image: How Western Civilization Was Shaped by a Revolutionary Idea, with moderator and discussant Dr. Rivka Press Schwartz. This is a hybrid event, in person on the Upper West Side and on zoom. Location will be shared with those who register.

Dr. Tomer Persico is a Fellow at the Shalom Hartman Institute, Chief Editor of the 'Challenges of Democracy' book series for the Rubinstein Center at Reichman University and a Senior Research Scholar at the UC Berkeley Center for Middle Eastern Studies. His books include The Jewish Meditative Tradition (Hebrew, Tel Aviv University Press, 2016), Liberalism: its Roots, Values and Crises (Hebrew, Dvir, 2024 and German, NZZ Libro, 2025) and most recently In God's Image: How Western Civilization Was Shaped by a Revolutionary Idea, out by NYU Press.

Dr. Rivka Press Schwartz serves as Associate Principal at SAR High School in the Bronx, New York, and as Director of Research and Program Development at its affiliated Machon Siach Research Institute. She has spent more than 20 years in the fields of Jewish secondary and post-secondary education. Rivka earned her Ph.D. from Princeton University in the History of Science, writing about the cultural history of the Manhattan Project, and lectures and writes widely about issues of contemporary importance in the North American Jewish community. She lives in New York City with her family.
