Israel/Palestine: Developments in International Law from Perspectives of Solidarity

The Gaza war has stimulated discussions which were already brewing long before Oct 7th 2023 about the past and the future of post WWII international order, law and justice. The conversation will focus on recent and ongoing developments - the proceedings before the ICJ and the ICC, as well as domestic cases pursued under the doctrine of universal jurisdiction. What is the role of Palestinian human rights lawyers and activists in these developments and what are, and what should be, the response of Israel and of the United States?

Dr. Karin Loevy is the manager of the doctoral program (JSD Program) at NYU School of Law and a researcher at the Institute for International Law and Justice (IILJ) where she leads the History & Theory of International Law workshop series. She teaches international law related courses at NYU Gallatin and at the New School department of global studies. Dr. Loevy's research is in general public law. In particular she writes on  emergency powers, law & solidarity, and on international legal history in the Middle East.
