Rabbi Zachary Truboff and Rabbi Chaim Seidler-Feller in Conversation: Zionism in Crisis: Jewish Power and Moral Responsibility After October 7

Join Smol Emuni US on Yom Ha’atzmaut for a timely conversation on Zionism with Rabbi Zachary Truboff and Rabbi Chaim Seidler-Feller. Centered on Rabbi Truboff’s new book, Zionism in Crisis: Jewish Power and Moral Responsibility After October 7, the discussion will engage pressing and difficult questions about Zionism and its current state.

This event will be on Zoom.

About Zionism in Crisis:
In the aftermath of October 7, the trauma of the attacks, the brutality of the war, and the reemergence of antisemitism have made sustained moral and political reflection increasingly difficult. Yet without an honest reckoning with Jewish power, Zionism now faces a crisis from within.

Drawing on Jewish theology, Zionist history, and contemporary political thought, Zionism in Crisis brings together essays that challenge sweeping defenses of Israel’s actions while rejecting total condemnations of Zionism. At its core, this book is a call for teshuvah: a call to ask whether the path Zionism is on is the right one, to name what has gone wrong, and to change course before it is too late.

Rabbi Zachary Truboff is the Director of the International Beit Din Institute for Agunah Research and Education, a halachic think tank dedicated to addressing the agunah problem. He is the author of Torah Goes Forth From Zion: Essays on the Thought of Rav Kook and Rav Shagar and his writings on Zionism and Jewish Thought have appeared in a variety of publications. Rabbi Truboff received ordination from Rav Zalman Nechemia Goldberg and Yeshivat Chovevei Torah. Before making aliyah, he served for nearly a decade as the rabbi of Cedar Sinai Synagogue in Cleveland, Ohio. He lives in Jerusalem with his wife, Jen, and their four children.

Rabbi Chaim Seidler-Feller was ordained at Yeshiva University in 1971, and served for forty years as the Executive Director of the Yitzhak Rabin Hillel Center for Jewish Life at UCLA. A founding member of Americans for Peace Now, he is currently a faculty member of the Shalom Hartman Institute, North America and of the Wexner Heritage Foundation.
