Dr. Mimi Syed, an emergency medicine physician and clinical professor at University of Washington and Washington State University, served in Gaza's al-Aqsa and Nasser Hospitals in 2024. She will share firsthand accounts of the war’s toll on children, the injuries she treated, and the medical community she met in Gaza who are fighting to keep the people there alive.
Tirza Leibowitz, deputy director of Physicians for Human Rights Israel will speak on what the systematic targeting of Gaza’s health system tells us more broadly about the war being waged by Israel on Gaza.

Rabbi David Polsky
Rabbi Polsky will guide a study of Talmudic passages from Tractate Gittin on the destruction of the Second Temple, exploring how these ancient texts provide a framework for understanding our moral and religious responsibilities toward Gazans and Palestinians today.
Rabbi David Polsky is an Orthodox rabbi, educator, and Kashrut professional living in Southfield, Michigan with his wife and two children. His main research interest is the interaction between Halakhah and social justice. He published two articles in The Lehrhaus making a Halachic case for police accountability, and his article on water access and Halakhah will be published in a book on Jews and progressivism. He is in the process of writing an article making a Halachic case against the starvation of Gaza. He received his ordination from Yeshiva University.
